It’s not every day that I am asked to photograph an anniversary session, and it’s especially not every day that I’m asked to photograph a couple celebrating FIFTY YEARS of marriage, so it was very exciting to be a part of Stu & Ingrid’s 50th anniversary celebration! Wow, what an accomplishment!! A lot can happen in 50 years, both happy & sad, good & challenging, and it’s perfect that these two have stood by each other’s sides through thick & thin.
We did the session on the couple’s property, which had beautiful dappled mid-afternoon sunlight and such great greenery (I understand there are some green thumbs living there!). Following the session, the couple celebrated with family & friends who came from near and far. There was quite the spread of delicious food, and of course there was cake!! After all, what’s an anniversary celebration without cake?!?
Anyway, without further ado, enjoy some of my favourites of the two of them, still deeply in love with each other after 50 years!
As you can see, clearly I wasn’t kidding when I said about the green thumbs!
And because I love black & white images the most…
Kudos to these two for putting up with me making them be all sappy in front of the camera, but they really were naturals! <3
I had a bit of a lesson on music when photographing the couple (and maybe you will right now, too!), because they requested a picture underneath their apple tree and I was curious as to the significance. They went on to explain there’s a song called “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree (With Anyone Else but Me)” that was popular back in the day. According to Wikipedia, “It’s lyrics are the words of two young lovers who pledge their fidelity while one of them is away serving in the war” (World War II).
Congratulations on fifty years of marriage, Stu & Ingrid!! May your love for each other inspire others to follow in your footsteps!
